Isfahan University of Medical Sciences has set up a structured complex called the Medical Equipment Skill Lab in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in order to meet the needs of the community, in line with the advances in science and technology. This complex's activities are centered on three main points including education, technology, and equipment museum.
In the training section, Medical Equipment Skill Lab tries to acquaint the audiences with the technical knowledge of equipment with short-term practical courses. The duties and missions of the center in this section include providing an appropriate environment for training the operation procedure, reviewing the structure, technical characteristics and accessories of medical equipment available in hospitals, as well as training skilled technicians for the repair of medical equipment in clinics and medical centers.
Medical Equipment Skill Lab aims to provide an opportunity for engineering students and graduates to hone their hands-on skills in electronics, mechanics, and software for seamless integration in the medical device industry. Trying to fill the gap between academic education and skills required by the industry, the technology skills lab helps trainees gain a better understanding of fundamentals of engineering by letting them tear down and analyze design and construction of different medical devices.
The ultimate goal of this technology skills lab is to provide the medical device industry with engineering workforce capable of solving complex problems in design, repair, and construction of medical devices, and at the same time help its trainees find the engineering jobs that corresponds to their capabilities.
The technology department of the center intends to discuss technological challenges in the field of medical equipment by holding a series of meetings called "CanDo". These technical sessions are expected to result in identifying the problems and shortcomings in this field, and to consequently solve these problems in the form of dissertations, research projects or holding competitions. Other activities of the center in this section include removing the existing gap between industry and the university by defining projects in the field of reverse engineering in medical equipment, as well as development of existing medical equipment through both hardware and software.
Considering the large number of long-life hospital medical equipment in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences which is no longer usable in treatment or diagnosis, the use of this equipment in education will be very beneficial. Therefore, Isfahan University of Medical Sciences intends to launch the Museum of Medical Equipment, with the record of all technological backgrounds, and the historical trend of the development of medical equipment.
