   Prof. Nizal Sarraf Zadegan

This study is an ongoing prospective cohort study on breast cancer (BC) and colorectal cancer (CRC) to develop risk assessment charts for predicting cardiovascular events in these cancers. We allocate the patients who are supposed to be treated with chemotherapy, surgical resection or radiotherapy or a combination of any of them.

We have being included 2700 samples consist of 1500 BC and 1200 CRC new cases in Isfahan. We collect general characteristics including demographic, socioeconomic status, lifestyle behaviours (nutrition, physical activity and smoking status), anxiety, depression and psychological variable and quality of life. Blood samples collect to measure fasting blood sugar (FBS) level, lipid profile that consist of total LDL- and HDL-cholesterol and triglyceride, serum SGPT, SGOT and quantitative CRP, Creatinine and bilirubin. Air pollution levels including indoor and outdoor pollutions are examined.  Also we use Echocardiography and ECG for evaluate cardiotoxicity. Patients will follow up at interval 6, 12 and 36 months later.

The primary outcomes will be new fatal and non-fatal CVD events like, systolic or diastolic heart failure, acute coronary syndromes that consist of acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina, stroke and CVD-related death.). The secondary outcomes are all-cause mortality, hospitalization for CVD, recurrent CVD events, change in cancer stage of its recurrence, metastasis, other cardiovascular disorders, and the frequency of hospitalization.
