The Childhood and Adolescence Surveillance and PreventIon of Adult Non-communicable disease (CASPIAN) study, is a school-based nationwide health survey, which is conducted in Iran as the national survey of school student high risk behaviors. The main survey is being repeated every 2 years, and blood sampling for the assessment of biochemical factors every 4 years.

The survey is performed among students aged 6–18 years, selected randomly from the schools of the urban and rural areas of all provinces of Iran. Two sets of questionnaires obtained from the Global School Health Survey (GSHS), a questionnaire developed by World Health Organization (WHO), would be completed from the students and their parents.

The students’ questionnaire includes questions regarding the relationship with peers, body image, and psychosocial environment of school, dietary habits, life‑style habits, physical activity pattern, unintentional injuries, violence behavior, active and passive smoking, as well as psychosocial relations with family. Also, the parents’ questionnaire assesses the family dietary habits, students’ past history, and familial history of chronic diseases.
